When purchasing a brand new racket, manufactures will usually string the racket with a highly thick and durable string at a low tension so that the strings will last for a very long time. This is to cater for novice players who are still learning, making the racket durable with a larger “sweet spot” due to the lower tension strings. When the strings eventually do break or you feel as though you’re ready to take the next step in your game. It will be time to restring your racket…

Contact Information is at the bottom of the page.

Choosing Your Tension

For tennis rackets, the tension usually ranges between 45-60lbs. For badminton rackets, the tension usually ranges between 17-30lbs. The range in which your racket can use should be labelled on the shaft of your tennis/badminton/squash racket. Choosing what tension to have is completely up to you. Most players will have a tension around the mid-20s (badminton) or around 50lbs (tennis), however it is about what’s best for your needs and your playing style. A looser string tension will mean increased power from the racket. Whereas a higher tensioned string will increase control. The tension of your racket can dramatically affect racket performance as it can impact spin, power, control and overall feel. Your string type and tension is a great way to customise the response of your racket to your personal game. The material of your string is also important. There are nylon/natural gut, polyester or a hybrid string.

Choosing Your String

When choosing your string, it’s important to consider what you want from your racket. Strings are usually split into 3 categories; power strings, control strings and durability strings. Power strings will typically have thinner string diameter gauges. Durability strings will have thicker gauge and are ideal for players who want their strings to last a bit longer. Control strings will also be thinner with a textured finish. It is advised that beginner players stick with a durability string due to the fact that they’re more prone to miss hitting the shuttle/ball, which in turn puts more stress on the strings (increasing likelihood of breaks).
